“SIDR_a cyclone of human rights
It was Nov 16,2007.A powerful cyclone smashed into Bangladesh killing more than 500 people, as it uprooted trees, destroyed homes and forced tens of thousands to flee for their lives,Different news sources confirmed.Sidr hit the coast of Bangladesh in the night (15 November) at 6:45 PM local time and reached the capital Dhaka in the early hours of this morning. Although the storm has now weakened, it has left a trail of unimaginable destruction in its wake. I have seen in news reports that 150 fishing trawlers and their crews are still unaccounted for, having failed to return to shore before the storm hit. It’s really treacherous to think. The nation had not experinced such a terrible natural disaster before. The whole Country is expressing deep grieve for the Victims.
The eye of cyclone Sidr, shown in satellite images as a huge swirling white mass moving in from the Bay of Bengal, hit land Thursday night(15 nov) before sweeping north towards the capital Dhaka. When we think that thousands of homes were ripped apart by ferocious winds, and tracts of farmland have been severely damaged, then it comes in mind that we are really defenseless in natural calamities. We have no protective structure of protecting such devastating cylone that the nation experienced.
I have seen in newspaper that Most deaths were caused by trees crushing delicate homes made of bamboo and tin.Can you believe that the Wind speeds of 220-240 kilometres (140-155 miles) an hour were recorded at that time, declared as the worst storms of years.Tens and possibly hundreds of thousands of people in the southwest spent the night in special evacuation shelters in a bid to avoid the massive casualties of previous cyclones.
I have heard that The Experts thoughts ‘Sidr’ as similar in strength to the 1991 storm that triggered a tidal wave that killed an estimated 138,000 people.Another cyclone was triggered in 1970 that carried such enormous destruction.
To save the victims our first priority is to distribute food and other relief items, to provide emergency shelter, and to ensure that people have access to basic health care, and clean water. The whole have to be approach to do.There is also needed psycho-social support, shelter rehabilitation, restoration of water and sanitation facilities, as well as livelihoods provision and support.
I am very glad to see that Our people are extending their Eager hand to help the devastated peoples of the Cyclone SIDR.From this terrible disaster we should learn how can we protest our lives from any such natural calamities. How can we be approach to the defected peoples,How can we work for a blameless life. The ruinous effects of this cyclone will be remembered in mind of The nation always.I express my deep grieve to the affected, distressed, dead peoples for the undesired destruction of their livelihood.
